牛郎织女的传说是中国"七夕节"的起源——每年农历七月初七，传说喜鹊会飞到银河上搭起一座桥，让牛郎织女相会，这就是"鹊桥"一词的由来。

The legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl is the origin of China's Qixi Festival. Each year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, magpies are said to form a bridge across the Milky Way so the two lovers can reunite, the origin of the term magpie bridge.

那天夜晚，小喜和阿鸦躺在草地上看星星。银河横贯天空，小喜突然指着天上问："阿鸦，银河是什么？"

That night, Magpie and A-Ya lay on the grass gazing at the stars. The Milky Way stretched across the sky. Magpie suddenly pointed upward and asked: "A-Ya, what is the Milky Way?"

"你知道吗，"阿鸦轻声说，"那条银河，在中国有一个非常古老的故事……"小喜立刻坐了起来，眼睛发亮。

"You know," A-Ya said softly, "that river of stars — in China, there is a very ancient story about it…" Magpie immediately sat up, eyes bright.

"你知道吗，"阿鸦压低声音，"织女第一次见到牛郎，是因为老牛开口说了话……"小喜瞪大了眼睛，连呼吸都忘了。

"You know," A-Ya lowered his voice, "the first time the Weaver Girl met the Cowherd, it was because an old ox suddenly spoke..." Magpie's eyes went wide, and she forgot to breathe.

"牛怎么会说话？"小喜忍不住打断。

"How could an ox talk?" Magpie couldn't help but interrupt.

阿鸦笑了笑："这头牛啊，可不是普通的牛……它本来是天上的神仙。"

A-Ya smiled: "Well, this wasn't an ordinary ox... it used to be a god from the heavens."

织女厌倦了天宫枯燥的生活，老牛告诉牛郎：仙女们会在河边沐浴，藏起一件衣裳，她就无法回天上了。
The Weaver Girl was tired of her dull life in heaven. The old ox told the Cowherd: the fairies would bathe by the river — hide one robe, and she could never return.

两人后来相爱成婚，生了一双儿女。过了几年，天帝发现了，王母娘娘亲自下凡，用金簪划出一道银河，将他们永远隔开。
They fell in love and had two children. But the Jade Emperor found out. The Queen Mother herself came down and drew a great river with her golden hairpin — the Milky Way — to separate them forever.

每年七月初七，喜鹊们会飞上天空，用身体搭成一座桥——鹊桥。让牛郎织女在银河上相会一次。
Every seventh day of the seventh lunar month, magpies fly up to the sky and form a bridge with their bodies — the Magpie Bridge. So the Cowherd and Weaver Girl can meet once a year across the Milky Way.

小喜抬头看着星空，胸口鼓鼓的。"阿鸦，"她轻声说，"所以每年七夕，下雨是因为……""织女的眼泪。"阿鸦说，语气难得温柔。
"A-Ya," Magpie whispered, gazing at the stars, "so when it rains on Qixi..." "Weaver Girl's tears," said A-Ya, his voice unusually gentle.
