The legend of Chang'e flying to the moon is one origin story behind the Mid-Autumn Festival. 那天是中秋节。小喜和阿鸦坐在屋顶上，对着一轮圆月发呆。小喜突然问："阿鸦，月亮里面真的有人吗？"

It was the Mid-Autumn Festival. Magpie and A-Ya sat on the rooftop, staring at the full moon in a daze. Magpie suddenly asked: "A-Ya, is there really someone living inside the moon?"

阿鸦抬头看了看月亮，说："有一个故事……一个女人，吃下了长生不老药，然后飞上了月宫，再也回不来了。"小喜屏住了呼吸。

A-Ya looked up at the moon. "There is a story," he said, "about a woman who swallowed an immortality elixir, then flew up to the Moon Palace and could never return." Magpie held her breath.

"小喜，"阿鸦压低声音，"后羿把仙药交给嫦娥保管那天晚上，其实有一只乌鸦在屋顶上……"小喜瞪大了眼睛，连呼吸都忘了。

"Magpie," A-Ya lowered his voice, "the night Houyi entrusted the elixir to Chang'e for safekeeping, there was actually a crow on the rooftop..." Magpie's eyes went wide, and she forgot to breathe.

"那只乌鸦看到了什么？"小喜追问。

"What did that crow see?" Magpie pressed.

阿鸦叹了口气："它看到一个不该出现的人，正躲在门外，盯着那瓶仙药。"

A-Ya sighed: "It saw someone who shouldn't have been there, hiding just outside the door, staring at that bottle of elixir."

传说天帝命令后羿射日，但留下一个让万物生长。后羿百步穿杨，一箭一个，九个太阳应声而落。天地终于凉快了。

Legend says the Jade Emperor ordered Hou Yi to shoot down the suns, but leave one for life to grow. Hou Yi hit each one perfectly — nine suns fell, and the earth finally cooled.

有一说是坏人逢蒙趁后羿不在，逼嫦娥交出仙药。嫦娥情急之下自己吞下，身体变轻，飘出窗外，越飞越高，最终落在了清冷的月宫。

One version says a villain named Fengmeng tried to steal the elixir while Hou Yi was away. In desperation, Chang'e swallowed it herself. Her body grew light, she floated out the window, rose higher and higher, and landed on the cold, lonely moon.

后羿仰望月亮，却永远追不上去。从此每年中秋，人们在月下摆上嫦娥爱吃的食物，祈求团圆。月宫里，嫦娥和玉兔相伴，年年望着人间。

Thor slew the sea serpent Jörmungandr, but was struck by its venom and fell after nine steps. Odin was swallowed by Fenrir. But — after the battle, the world was reborn, new gods rose, and humanity survived.

🌕 小喜抬头望月，轻声说："那月亮里，真的有人吗？"

小喜抬头望着圆月，半天没说话。"阿鸦，"她轻声问，"嫦娥在月宫，会不会很孤独？"阿鸦也抬起头，"会。但她每年中秋，都能看见人间万家灯火。也许，那就是她的陪伴。"
"A-Ya," Magpie whispered, gazing at the full moon, "do you think Chang'e is lonely up there?" A-Ya looked up too. "Yes. But every Mid-Autumn, she can see the lights of ten thousand homes below. Perhaps that's her company."
