中国民间流传着"八仙过海，各显神通"这句俗语，说的是八位神仙——铁拐李、汉钟离、张果老、何仙姑、蓝采和、韩湘子、曹国舅、吕洞宾的故事。他们个个法力高强，性格也各不相同，是老百姓最熟悉、最喜爱的一群神仙。

In Chinese folklore, there's a well-known saying: "The Eight Immortals cross the sea, each showing their own special skill." It refers to eight immortals — Li Tieguai, Han Zhongli, Zhang Guolao, He Xiangu, Lan Caihe, Han Xiangzi, Cao Guojiu, and Lü Dongbin. Each possessed remarkable powers and a distinct personality, and together they became some of the most beloved figures in Chinese folk stories.

有一次，八位神仙一起去天上参加蟠桃盛会，痛痛快快地喝酒吃桃，尽兴而归。回程的路上，他们来到了东海边——面前是一片望不到边的大海，这可怎么过去呢？

Once, the eight immortals traveled to a heavenly gathering to celebrate the Peach Banquet, feasting and drinking to their hearts' content. On their way home, they arrived at the edge of the East Sea — a vast expanse of water stretching as far as the eye could see. How would they possibly cross it?

小喜看到画里八位神仙站在海浪上，每个人手里拿的东西都不一样，好奇地问："阿鸦，他们这是要做什么呀？"

Magpie saw a painting of eight immortals standing on the waves, each holding something different, and asked curiously, "A-Ya, what are they about to do?"

阿鸦说："他们是中国传说里最有名的八位神仙，参加完蟠桃会准备回家，可眼前挡着一片大海，谁也没打算坐船。"

A-Ya said, "They're the eight most famous immortals in Chinese legend. They'd just finished the Peach Banquet and were heading home, but a vast sea stood in their way — and none of them planned to take a boat."

小喜惊讶："不坐船？那怎么过海呀？"

Magpie was amazed, "Not take a boat? Then how would they cross?"

阿鸦说："有一位神仙提议，谁也别用船，各自拿出自己的宝贝，看谁的本事能渡过这片大海。"

A-Ya said, "One of the immortals suggested that no one use a boat — instead, each would bring out their own treasure and see whose skill could carry them across the sea."

小喜追问："那大家都带了什么宝贝呀？"

Magpie pressed on, "So what treasures did everyone bring?"

阿鸦说："八个人，八件宝贝，一个比一个特别，谁都不肯认输。"

A-Ya said, "Eight people, eight treasures, each more unusual than the last — and no one wanted to be outdone."

小喜好奇："他们最后是怎么过海的呀？"

Magpie was curious, "So how did they finally cross the sea?"

阿鸦说："这就是'八仙过海，各显神通'这句话的由来。具体每个人是怎么做的，还得从头讲起。"

他们走到东海边，前面是一片望不到边的大海，谁也没打算坐船过去。有位神仙提议，干脆各自拿出自己的宝贝，看谁的本事能渡过这片大海。

They arrived at the edge of the East Sea, facing a vast expanse of water with no end in sight, and none of them planned to take a boat. One immortal suggested that instead, each should bring out their own treasure and see whose skill could carry them across.

So what did everyone actually do?

铁拐李第一个动手，把手里的大葫芦往海里一扔，葫芦立刻变成一只小船，他稳稳地站上去，飘飘荡荡地漂了出去。其他几位神仙一看，也纷纷拿出自己的宝贝——有的是渔鼓，有的是花篮，有的是荷花，各自扔进海里。

Li Tieguai was the first to act — he tossed his large gourd into the sea, and it instantly turned into a small boat. He stepped onto it steadily and drifted off across the waves. Seeing this, the other immortals brought out their own treasures too — some had a fishing drum, some a flower basket, some a lotus flower — and each tossed theirs into the sea.

是呀，八个人的宝贝个个不同，有的变成船，有的变成筏子，还有的干脆站在自己的宝贝上，像踩着一片云一样稳稳当当。最后，八位神仙靠着各自的本事，全都安全地渡过了大海。

That's right, all eight treasures were different — some turned into boats, some into rafts, and some immortals simply stood on their treasure as steadily as if standing on a cloud. In the end, each of the eight immortals safely crossed the sea using their own unique skill.
