In ancient Chinese folklore, there is a well-known story called "The Snail Girl." The story's main character, Xie Duan, was a hardworking and kind-hearted farmer who lived in poverty, earning his living through honest labor, day after day.

有一天，谢端在田边发现了一只格外大而美丽的田螺，觉得十分稀奇，便把它带回家，养在了水缸里。没想到，从这天起，他的生活渐渐发生了意想不到的变化。

One day, Xie Duan found an unusually large and beautiful snail by the edge of his field. Finding it remarkable, he brought it home and kept it in a water jar. Little did he know, from that day on, his life would begin to change in ways he never expected.

小喜看到画里一位农夫站在自家门口，一脸惊讶地看着屋里，好奇地问："阿鸦，他这是怎么了呀？"

阿鸦说："他叫谢端，自从捡回一只田螺养在水缸里，家里就总是发生一些让他摸不着头脑的怪事。"

A-Ya said, "His name is Xie Duan. Ever since he brought home a snail and kept it in a water jar, strange things kept happening at home that left him utterly puzzled."

小喜惊讶："什么怪事呀？"

Magpie was amazed, "What kind of strange things?"

阿鸦说："他每次从地里干活回来，家里居然都已经做好了热腾腾的饭菜，屋子也收拾得干干净净。"

A-Ya said, "Every time he came back from working in the fields, he'd find a hot meal already prepared and the house neatly cleaned."

小喜追问："那他知道是谁做的吗？"

Magpie pressed on, "Did he know who was doing it?"

阿鸦说："一开始完全不知道，直到有一天，他决定弄清楚这背后的秘密。"

A-Ya said, "At first he had no idea at all — until one day, he decided to find out the secret behind it."

小喜好奇："他发现了什么呀？"

Magpie was curious, "What did he discover?"

阿鸦说："他看到了一件让他又惊又喜的事——具体发生了什么，还得从头讲起。"

谢端是个勤劳善良的农夫，家境贫寒，一直没有成家。有一天他在田边看见一只格外大而美丽的田螺，觉得十分稀奇，便把它带回家，养在了水缸里。从这天起，他的生活渐渐有了意想不到的变化。

Xie Duan was a hardworking, kind-hearted farmer who lived in poverty and had never married. One day he spotted an unusually large and beautiful snail by his field, and finding it remarkable, brought it home to keep in a water jar. From that day on, his life began to change in unexpected ways.

For several days in a row, whenever Xie Duan came home from farming, he'd find a hot meal already prepared and the house spotlessly clean. He found it strange but didn't think too much of it, assuming a kind neighbor was helping out. Eventually, unable to contain his curiosity, he decided to find out who was secretly helping him.

有一天，他假装照常出门下地，却悄悄躲在篱笆后面观察，看见水缸里那只田螺壳裂开一条缝，一位美丽的姑娘从中走出，开始生火做饭、打扫屋子。谢端又惊又喜，忍不住走上前去。姑娘吓了一跳，说自己是被派来悄悄帮他渡过难关的，如今身份被发现，本该离开。谢端诚恳地说，自己心里满是感激，不愿她就此离开，希望能与她好好相处、彼此照应。姑娘见他真诚，便留了下来，两人从此相知相伴，日子越过越好。

One day, he pretended to head out to the fields as usual, but secretly hid behind the fence to watch. He saw a crack open in the snail shell in the water jar, and a beautiful young woman stepped out, beginning to light the stove and sweep the house. Xie Duan was both startled and delighted, and couldn't help but step forward. The young woman was startled too, explaining she had been sent to quietly help him through hard times, and now that her identity was discovered, she should leave. Xie Duan sincerely told her how grateful he was and that he didn't want her to leave, hoping they could care for each other going forward. Moved by his sincerity, the young woman decided to stay, and from then on the two lived together, their days growing better and better.

The image of the Snail Girl later appeared in regional operas and folk New Year paintings across China, embodying people's hopes for kindness and sincerity.
