在斯拉夫民族的传统故事里，一年十二个月常常被想象成十二位性格各异的兄弟，他们围坐在一堆永不熄灭的篝火旁，轮流值守属于自己的那一个月，谁也不能提前离开自己的岗位。

In Slavic folk tradition, the twelve months of the year are often imagined as twelve brothers, each with his own character, sitting together around a fire that never goes out. Each brother takes his turn watching over his own month, and none of them may leave his post early.

这个故事在俄罗斯、乌克兰、捷克等地广为流传，后来被作家萨莫伊尔·马尔沙克改编成同名话剧，1956年苏联又把它拍成了动画长片，成为几代孩子共同的童年记忆。

This tale has long been told across Russia, Ukraine, and the Czech lands. It was later adapted into a play of the same name by the writer Samuil Marshak, and in 1956 the Soviet Union turned it into a full-length animated film, becoming a shared childhood memory for generations.

小喜看到画里一位小姑娘提着空篮子，孤零零地站在漆黑的雪林边，好奇地问："阿鸦，她这么晚了还要去哪儿呀？"

Magpie saw a painting of a little girl holding an empty basket, standing alone at the edge of a pitch-dark snowy forest, and asked curiously, "A-Ya, where's she going so late at night?"

阿鸦说："这是继女，继母大年三十的晚上把她赶出了家门，让她去干一件几乎不可能的事。"

A-Ya said, "That's a stepdaughter. On New Year's Eve, her stepmother drove her out of the house and told her to do something nearly impossible."

小喜惊讶："什么不可能的事呀？"

Magpie was amazed, "What impossible thing?"

阿鸦说："继母让她去雪地里找春天才会开的雪莲花，找不到就不许回家。"

A-Ya said, "Her stepmother told her to find snowdrops in the snow, flowers that only bloom in spring, and said she couldn't come home without them."

小喜追问："这大冬天的，哪儿来的雪莲花呀？"

Magpie pressed on, "In the middle of winter, where would snowdrops even come from?"

阿鸦说："她在雪林深处，意外遇见了一堆奇怪的篝火，篝火旁坐着十二个人。"

A-Ya said, "Deep in the snowy forest, she stumbled upon a strange bonfire, and around it sat twelve people."

小喜好奇："他们是谁呀？"

Magpie was curious, "Who were they?"

阿鸦说："他们的身份说出来你可能不信，具体发生了什么，还得从头讲起。"

A-Ya said, "You might not believe who they really were. To find out exactly what happened, we'll have to start from the beginning."

A-Ya, what happened after the stepdaughter walked into the snowy forest?

继女提着空篮子，深一脚浅一脚地走进漆黑的雪林，又冷又怕，几乎要哭出来。她走了很久，忽然看见远处透出一点火光，走近一看，是一堆篝火，篝火旁围坐着十二个人，年纪从很老到很年轻都有。为首的一位胡须结霜、神情严厉，继女这才知道，他们正是掌管十二个月份的月神兄弟，此刻正好是他们一年一度交接班的时刻。

The stepdaughter carried her empty basket and picked her way through the pitch-dark snowy forest, cold and frightened, nearly in tears. She walked for a long time, until she suddenly saw a faint light in the distance. Drawing closer, she found a bonfire, with twelve people sitting around it, ranging from very old to very young. The one in front, his beard rimmed with frost and his expression stern, turned out to be the eldest, and only then did she realize they were the twelve brothers who governed the months of the year, meeting at this very moment for their yearly handover.

继女鼓起勇气，恭恭敬敬地行了礼，如实说明了自己的处境：继母逼她在冬天找雪莲花，找不到就不能回家。她一句谎话也没说，也没有夸大自己的可怜，只是老老实实地把事情讲了一遍。为首的"一月"沉声问其他十一位兄弟："谁愿意让位一个时辰，帮帮这个孩子？"

The stepdaughter gathered her courage, bowed respectfully, and honestly explained her situation: her stepmother had forced her to find snowdrops in winter, and she couldn't go home without them. She didn't tell a single lie, nor did she exaggerate her misfortune, she simply told the truth as it was. The eldest, January, asked the other eleven brothers in a deep voice, who among you is willing to give up his place for an hour, to help this child?

年轻的"四月"站了起来，笑着说愿意把自己的时辰提前借给继女用。他轻轻一挥手，四周的积雪竟真的开始融化，草地上冒出了嫩绿的芽，紧接着，一朵朵洁白的雪莲花破土而出，在寒夜里静静绽放。继女又惊又喜，赶紧摘下满满一捧，可她只摘了刚好够用的量，便双手合十向十二兄弟深深道谢，转身就往家赶，一秒也没有多留，更没有贪心地多摘一朵。

The young brother, April, stood up and said with a smile that he was happy to lend his hour to the stepdaughter. He gave a gentle wave of his hand, and the snow around them truly began to melt. Tender green shoots pushed up through the grass, and one by one, pure white snowdrops broke through the earth, blooming quietly in the cold night. Overjoyed, the stepdaughter quickly gathered a handful, but only exactly as many as she needed. She pressed her palms together and bowed deeply to thank the twelve brothers, then turned and hurried home without lingering a single extra second, and without greedily picking even one more flower.

She never lied to flatter the month brothers, nor did she take the chance to be greedy. Honesty and contentment are sometimes more precious than any magic, and that's exactly why April was willing to help her."
