Nowruz, the Persian New Year, is a traditional festival still celebrated today across Iran, Central Asia, and beyond, marking the beginning of spring. The origin of this festival is recorded in a wonderfully imaginative legend from the ancient Persian epic "Shahnameh": the story of King Jamshid and the jeweled throne he built.

传说贾姆希德是一位聪明又爱创造的国王，教会了人们纺织、冶炼、制作工具，他建造的这座能飞上天空的宝座，后来成了波斯新年最著名的传说，至今诺鲁孜节仍是伊朗、阿富汗、库尔德等多个民族共同庆祝的重要节日。

Legend has it that Jamshid was a wise and inventive king who taught people to weave cloth, smelt metal, and craft tools. The throne he built, one that could fly into the sky, later became the most famous legend behind the Persian New Year. To this day, Nowruz remains an important festival celebrated together by Iranians, Afghans, Kurds, and many other peoples.

A-Ya said, "That's King Jamshid from an ancient Persian legend. He did something no one had ever thought of, and it turned that day into a festival still celebrated thousands of years later."

A-Ya said, "He built a throne studded with jewels, and had spirits carry it up into the sky."

Magpie was curious, "What did he do up in the sky?"

阿鸦说："他在天上看到的景象，后来成了一个流传几千年的节日的起点，具体发生了什么，还得从头讲起。"

A-Ya said, "What he saw up there became the beginning of a festival that has lasted for thousands of years. To find out exactly what happened, we'll have to start from the beginning."

贾姆希德是波斯古老传说里一位非常有智慧的国王，他在位的时候，教会了百姓纺织衣物、冶炼金属、打造各种精巧的工具，让大家的生活变得越来越好。有一天，他忽然冒出一个念头，想要建造一座镶满宝石的华丽宝座，用来庆祝这些美好的变化。

Jamshid was an extraordinarily wise king in ancient Persian legend. During his reign, he taught the people to weave cloth, smelt metals, and craft all kinds of fine tools, making everyone's lives better and better. One day, an idea suddenly came to him: he wanted to build a magnificent throne studded with gemstones, to celebrate all these wonderful changes.

So how did this throne end up flying?

宝座造好之后，贾姆希德请来了传说中力大无穷的神灵，让他们抬起这座宝座，一路飞向天空。清晨的阳光洒在宝座上，珠宝闪闪发光，远远看去，就像天空中升起了另一个太阳。百姓们抬头看见国王乘着宝座出现在天边，都欢呼雀跃，把这一天当作最特别的日子来庆祝。

Once the throne was built, Jamshid summoned spirits said to possess boundless strength in legend, and had them lift the throne and carry it flying into the sky. The morning sunlight fell upon the throne, and the jewels sparkled brilliantly, so that from a distance, it looked as if another sun had risen into the sky. When the people looked up and saw the king appear on the horizon riding his throne, they cheered with joy, and celebrated that day as the most special day of all.

Yes, because that day happened to be the very first day of spring, when all things begin to come back to life, the legend of Jamshid flying into the sky became linked with the beautiful meaning of bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new, greeting spring. It came to be called Nowruz, which in Persian means new day. From then on, every year on the first day of spring, people celebrate Nowruz, wearing new clothes, sweeping away the old dust, and gathering with family, a custom that has continued all the way to today, becoming an important New Year festival celebrated together by Iranians, Afghans, Kurds, and many other peoples.
