In Greek mythology, Heracles was the son of Zeus, king of the gods, born with boundless strength. To prove himself worthy of being called a hero, he had to complete twelve nearly impossible tasks, known as the famous "Twelve Labors of Heracles."

这十二项任务里，有的要打败凶猛的怪兽，有的要完成看似不可能的苦力活，每一项都考验着他的力量、勇气和智慧。几千年来，这些故事一直被用来形容一个人面对超级艰巨的挑战——"赫拉克勒斯式的任务"。

Some of the twelve labors required defeating fierce monsters, while others involved seemingly impossible feats of labor, each testing his strength, courage, and wisdom. For thousands of years, these stories have been used to describe facing an extraordinarily difficult challenge — a "Herculean task."

小喜盯着一尊青铜狮子雕像看了很久，雕像的鬃毛在阳光下泛着金光："阿鸦，这只狮子看起来好厉害，眼神凶巴巴的，是普通狮子吗？"

Xiaoxi stared at a bronze lion statue for a long time, its mane gleaming gold in the sunlight: "Aya, this lion looks so fierce, with such an angry stare — is it just an ordinary lion?"

阿鸦抬头看了看雕像，压低声音说："这可不是普通狮子。它浑身刀枪不入，专门在山谷里祸害村庄——这是赫拉克勒斯十二项任务里的第一个对手，涅墨亚狮子。"

Aya looked up at the statue and lowered his voice: "This is no ordinary lion. Its hide is impervious to weapons, and it has been terrorizing villages in the valley — this is Heracles's first opponent in the Twelve Labors, the Nemean Lion."

小喜倒吸一口气："刀枪不入？那怎么可能打得赢它呀？"

Xiaoxi gasped, "Impervious to weapons? How could anyone possibly defeat it?"

阿鸦说："很多勇士都试过用长矛、弓箭，结果武器全都从它身上弹开，一点用都没有。"

Aya said, "Many warriors tried spears and arrows, but every weapon just bounced off its hide, completely useless."

小喜担心地问："那赫拉克勒斯该不会也失败了吧？"

Xiaoxi asked worriedly, "Don't tell me Heracles failed too?"

阿鸦神秘一笑："他很快就想通了一件事——既然武器没用，那就干脆不用武器。"

Aya smiled mysteriously, "He quickly realized something — if weapons were useless, why use weapons at all?"

小喜瞪大眼睛，完全想不明白："不用武器？那要怎么打赢一头刀枪不入的狮子？！"

Xiaoxi's eyes went wide, utterly baffled: "No weapons? Then how do you beat a lion that weapons can't even scratch?!"

阿鸦故意卖了个关子："这个办法又聪明又大胆，想知道完整答案？那就得往下听了。"

Aya deliberately teased, "It was a clever and daring plan. Want the full answer? You'll have to keep listening."

赫拉克勒斯是宙斯的儿子，天生神力过人。为了证明自己配得上英雄的荣耀，他接受了十二项极其艰巨的任务的考验，一项比一项难。

Heracles was the son of Zeus, born with extraordinary strength. To prove himself worthy of a hero's glory, he accepted the trial of twelve extremely difficult labors, each harder than the last.

第一项任务，就是打败涅墨亚谷地里的一头凶猛狮子。这头狮子的皮毛异常坚硬，刀剑箭矢都无法穿透，附近的村庄被它祸害得不轻。

The first labor was to defeat a fierce lion in the Nemean valley. Its hide was extraordinarily tough, impervious to swords and arrows, and it had been terrorizing nearby villages.

So how did Heracles manage to defeat it?

赫拉克勒斯发现武器根本伤不了它，索性丢掉武器，徒手把狮子逼进一个只有一个出口的山洞，用双臂将它死死缠住，最终制服了这头狮子。他还剥下了狮子刀枪不入的皮毛，做成了一件铠甲，从此穿在身上，成了他最有名的标志。

Heracles realized weapons were useless against it, so he threw them aside, cornered the lion barehanded into a cave with only one exit, wrestled it with his bare arms, and finally overpowered it. He then skinned its impenetrable hide and wore it as armor, which became his most famous emblem.

Xiaoxi sighed, "Heracles is amazing!" A-Ya nodded, "This was only the first of the twelve labors. Afterward he still had to fight the nine-headed Hydra, capture a golden deer, and clean out a stable filled with filth, each one requiring different wisdom and strength. These stories have been told for thousands of years, and the phrase a Herculean task is still used today to describe a challenge that seems nearly impossible to accomplish."
