在《西游记》里，唐僧师徒四人西天取经，一路上除了要跋山涉水，还要提防各种伪装成普通人的妖怪。白骨精是书中最狡猾的妖怪之一，她最擅长的本事，就是变化成不同的人形，一次次骗过唐僧的信任，企图找机会伤害他。

In "Journey to the West," Tangseng and his three disciples faced not only treacherous mountains and rivers on their pilgrimage, but also demons disguised as ordinary people. The White Bone Spirit is one of the story's most cunning demons, her greatest skill was transforming into different human forms, repeatedly deceiving Tangseng's trust in an attempt to find a chance to harm him.

孙悟空天生有一双"火眼金睛"，能看穿一切妖怪的伪装。可是唐僧凡胎肉眼，只能看到眼前那个"人"的模样，完全无法分辨真假。这场围绕"到底该不该相信自己眼睛"的冲突，成了整个故事里最扣人心弦的一段。

Sun Wukong was born with a pair of "fiery golden eyes" that could see through any demon's disguise. But Tangseng, with his ordinary mortal eyes, could only see the person standing before him, utterly unable to tell truth from illusion. This conflict, over whether to trust what one's own eyes see, became one of the most gripping parts of the entire story.

小喜看着博物馆里一幅泛黄的古画，画中一位猴子模样的英雄挥棒怒指着一位年轻女子，好奇地问："阿鸦，孙悟空怎么在打一个普通姑娘呀？这也太凶了吧！"

Xiaoxi looked at a faded old painting in the museum, showing a monkey-like hero angrily pointing his staff at a young woman, and asked curiously, "Aya, why is Sun Wukong attacking an ordinary girl? That seems way too harsh!"

阿鸦说："这可不是普通姑娘——她是一个专门伪装成人形的妖怪，叫白骨精。孙悟空的眼睛能看穿她的伪装，可他的师父唐僧，却怎么都不肯相信自己徒弟的话。"

Aya said, "She's not an ordinary girl at all, she's a demon who specialized in disguising herself as a human, called the White Bone Spirit. Sun Wukong's eyes could see through her disguise, but his master, Tangseng, simply refused to believe his disciple's words no matter what."

小喜追问："那孙悟空真的看穿她了吗？"

Xiaoxi pressed, "So did Sun Wukong really see through her?"

阿鸦说："他一眼就看穿了，可问题不在于他看没看穿，而在于——他要怎么才能让别人也相信他看到的是真的。"

Aya said, "He saw through her instantly, but the problem wasn't whether he could see the truth, it was how he could make others believe what he saw."

小喜好奇地问："唐僧不相信孙悟空吗？"

Xiaoxi asked curiously, "Didn't Tangseng believe Sun Wukong?"

阿鸦说："完全不相信。在唐僧眼里，那分明就是一位普通人，孙悟空却一棒子打了下去，这在唐僧看来，简直就是滥杀无辜。"

Aya said, "Not at all. In Tangseng's eyes, that was clearly just an ordinary person, yet Sun Wukong struck her down with his staff, which to Tangseng looked like nothing short of senseless violence."

小喜追问："那白骨精就这样被打死了吗？"

Xiaoxi pressed, "So was the White Bone Spirit killed just like that?"

阿鸦故意卖了个关子："哪有这么容易——她一连变了三次身份，孙悟空也打了整整三次。这场'三打'到底怎么打的？那就得往下听了。"

Aya deliberately teased, "It wasn't that simple, she changed her disguise three times in total, and Sun Wukong struck her down three times as well. Exactly how did these three battles play out? You'll have to keep listening."

她先变成一位送饭的年轻姑娘，想借着送斋饭的机会接近唐僧。孙悟空一眼就看穿了她的真身，一棒打了下去，可她使了个"金蝉脱壳"，只留下一具假的躯壳，自己逃走了。唐僧却因此责怪孙悟空滥杀无辜。

She first transformed into a young woman bringing food, hoping to get close to Tangseng under the pretense of offering a meal. Sun Wukong saw through her true form instantly and struck her with his staff, but she used a trick called "the golden cicada sheds its shell," leaving behind only a fake body while escaping herself. Tangseng blamed Sun Wukong for senseless violence as a result.

Of course not. She then transformed into an elderly woman, pretending to search for her "daughter" in an attempt at revenge. Sun Wukong exposed the truth once again and struck her down, but what remained at the scene was again just a fake body created through a deceptive trick. Tangseng grew even angrier, convinced Sun Wukong was lying and abusing his power.

This time she transformed into a white-haired old man, claiming to be searching for his wife and daughter. Sun Wukong exposed her for the third time, and this time he finally struck down her true form for good, revealing a pile of bare white bones. But Tangseng, unable to bear what looked like "three killings," lost his temper and banished Sun Wukong from the pilgrimage.

A-Ya nodded, "Yes, it reminds us that seeing the truth and getting others to believe it are actually two completely different things, sometimes, even when you're right, you might not be able to convince everyone right away."

《西游记》里，孙悟空的"火眼金睛"设定，据说是他在太上老君的炼丹炉里被烟熏了四十九天练出来的本事。"三打白骨精"这个故事流传极广，"白骨精"这个词后来也成了中文里形容"表面伪装、内心狠毒之人"的常用说法。

In "Journey to the West," Sun Wukong's "fiery golden eyes" are said to have come from being smoked in Laozi's alchemy furnace for forty-nine days. The story of "Three Beatings of the White Bone Spirit" became extremely well known, and the term "White Bone Spirit" later entered everyday Chinese as a way to describe someone who appears harmless on the surface but is cunning and malicious underneath.
