In Hindu mythology, Shiva is not only known as the god of meditation and asceticism, but also carries another widely recognized form — the "Lord of Dance," Nataraja. According to legend, Shiva performs an extraordinary dance across the cosmos called the Tandava, and the rhythm of this dance is said to govern the entire universe's cycle of creation, sustenance, dissolution, and rebirth.

One foot is planted firmly on the ground, while the other is lifted lightly — a posture believed to represent liberation from attachment and forgetfulness.

Shiva has four arms in this form, and each one carries its own meaning. The upper right hand holds a small drum, whose beat represents the very first pulse of the universe's creation. The upper left hand cradles a flame, symbolizing the dissolution and ending of old things. Of the remaining two hands, one is held palm-outward in a gesture that means "do not be afraid," offering reassurance to all beings, while the other points toward his gently raised foot, hinting at liberation and freedom.

That ring of flames is called the Prabhamandala, and it represents the endless cycle by which the universe operates — old things dissolve within it, while new things are born from it, just like the turning of the seasons or the rising and setting of the sun, without end. Shiva dances gracefully within this eternal ring of fire, using his steps to sustain this recurring rhythm, reminding people that an ending is not a final stop, but the starting point of something new.
